September 15-19

We had an amazing week last week! We are still focusing on place value with whole numbers and now decimals. Students should practice writing decimals in word form, expanded form, and standard form. Using playing cards and having students come up with their own numbers will be helpful. In Science, we are discussing animals and adaptations that help them survive. Students will benefit from looking at different animals and insects in their community and discussing why these animals survive. We are going to have a great week! This week we are starting to wind down into finishing off the 9 Weeks strong! Students can expect several graded assignments this week. We are finishing up comparing fractions as well as working on weather and climate in class. Students are expected to complete homework nightly as well as study their Science Journal. Welcome Back! 12/2-12/6

We are just making it back from Thanksgiving Break! This week we are wrapping up equivalent fractions and moving on to comparing fractions to see if one fraction is larger, smaller or equivalent to another fraction. At home, please be sure your students are studying their notes in their Science Journal. We are currently finishing natural resources. We will have a new project that we are starting on Wednesday December 4, 2013 related to weather and climate. The rubric will be posted on the blog after it is introduced to the students. November 18-22

Happy Monday! We are working on Equivalent Fractions in class. Due to testing these last few weeks, we are still working on determining if a fraction is equivalent or not. This week we will be learning the greatest common factor, and how to use this to simplify fractions. In science, we are learning about the world's natural resources and how they can be conserved.

October 28-November 1

Hello All, We are currently focused on Fractions and Decimals. Students should be able to understand the differences between segment, set, and region. We will be also be focused on changing an improper fraction to a mixed number as well as doing the reverse. In Science, we will be focused on different forms of energy. Students should be able to identify different forms of energy in many situations. Please see the homework tab for homework assignments and quizzes!

Last week of the 9 Weeks

We have made it into the last week of the grading period. Friday ends the first 9 weeks. We are currently working on division and we will continue working on Forces in Science.

This week we are focused on dividing by 1-digit divisors. This is a skill that students should have learned from 4th Grade so, essentially this should be a review. Practice at home with your students by thinking of a party or some type of activity will help them understand sharing of items. In Science, please be sure that your student is reviewing their Frayer Models that they will make in class for different types of forces. We will be reviewing these words for 2 weeks. Moving Forward

This week we are focused on....drum roll please...Multiplication! We will be focused on using multiplication to solve problems. At home, please make sure your student is continuously reviewing their multiplication facts. We will continue to work on multiplication until next week. Students will benefit from practicing real world problems such as preparing for a party and making snack bags, etc. This week we do not have school on Friday!
